  Joe Biden has been sworn in as the   46th President of the United State s in the  59th inauguration ceremony   at the West Front of the US Capitol. India, EU hold first virtual maritime security dialogue

  The India-EU Maritime Security Dialogue aimed at developing mutual understanding and cooperation between both the regions in the maritime security domain. India and the European Union held their first virtual maritime security dialogue on January 20, 2021. The maritime dialogue was chaired by the Joint Secretary Sandeep Arya from the Indian side and Director Joanneke Balfoort on the European Union External Action Service Side. The consultation between India and the EU during the dialogue involved exchanges on the development in regional cooperation activities, maritime security environment, opportunities for cooperation between India and the European Union, and developments of mutual interest. Objective: The India-EU Maritime Security Dialogue aimed at developing the mutual understanding and cooperation between the EU and India in the maritime security domain.   The new US President has halted the construction of Trump's border wall with Mexico by terminating the administration's national emergency declaration that helped fund the building of the wall.  Newly sworn-in US President Joe Biden signed  almost 15 executive orders  from the Oval Office on the first day of his administration to undo his predecessor Donald Trump's key policies over the last four years.  Within hours of taking the oath of office, President Biden recommitted the US to battling the COVID-19 pandemic, economic crisis and climate crisis. He said that the executive actions will help change the course of the COVID crisis, combat climate change in a way they had not done before, advance racial equity in support of underserved communities and rebuild economies. He said that there is no time to start but today and added that there is a long way to go, as these are just executive actions and they will need legislations for a lot of things they are planning to do. 

India at UNSC: India ready to play constructive, meaningful role to end Syrian conflict

  Tirumurti said as India begins its new term in the UNSC 8 years later, it is disheartening to note that the ongoing crisis in Syria still has no end in sight.  India said on January 20, 2021 that it is ready to play a "constructive and meaningful" role in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) towards completely ending the Syrian conflict.  This was stated by India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti during a UNSC briefing on Syria.  Tirumurti said as India begins its new term in the UNSC 8 years later, it is disheartening to note that the ongoing crisis in Syria still has no end in sight. He said that the political process is yet to take off and the conflict has become even more complex with the involvement of regional players.  He asserted that terrorism emanating from Syria has spread far, even reaching parts of Africa.
